Another's View on GROW

Talking about some positive passages found when applied can be helpful:

The overall key to mental health?

."Settle for disorder in lesser things for the sake of order in greater things and therefore be content to be discontent in many things".

There is so much more to mental health than this!

But this can be helpful with obsession such as redecorating.

There is a really need to get to the cause of the obsession not just try to control it by reason.

Another one found particularly comforting and so true in life is:

The Comforting Paradox

If you think your whole life is going wrong

Just because so much of it is going wrong

You're wrong

Mostly, when things go wrong,

They're met to go wrong

So we can outgrow

What we are met to outgrow.

This does not offer solutions tho'

Passage below when applied can be helpful;

Can be found on page 10 No 1 of the

"Three Basic Determinations" (whatever that is supposed to mean!?)

I will go by what I know,

Not by how I feel; and

I will strive to improve my knowledge and understanding.

Another helpful Grow wisdom is:

Live One Day at Time.

This wisdom thought is particularly positive:

Count your blessings and emphasize what is good in you and around you.

The more positive happy thinkin' the better.

Now negatives found:

So much references to God as The WAY of help for yourself.

Page 6 where the question is asked Which Tranquilizers Do You Use?

Where anyone stands in regard to mental health or peace of mind can be discovered by asking which of the following "tranquillizers" do you mainly depend on to keep order in your mind and life?

God is listed as No 1

There are 6 listed.

Medical Intervention meaning physical or chemical means (ECT or drugs) comes second last.

It seems if you depend on medication you stand poorly in regard to mental health.

But there is a real place for medication to survive and thrive. Are we not mentally well?

Do we expect a diabetic not to take insulin when the pancreas is not working correctly?

Or do we suppose that an epileptic must come off medication for them to lead a happy fulfilling life when the brain is unable to function to control fitting?

On page 41 below the heading,

How Do You Know you’ve Recovered?

3) "Your main habitual supports for facing life are you’re built in habits of personal maturity ....

Accompanied by an increasing awareness of the presence and power of a loving God.

Not the doctor, nor the pills nor even the group.

Again God is supposedly one of the main keys of mental health.

And pills are unessential. There are some who could not do without medication.

On page 14 No 5 of the 5 First Keys

For Understanding Feelings seems to denote the importance of medication for any.

This is what is stated:

To take artificial means (pills, hard drugs or alcohol)

to meet the ordinary stresses and crises of  life

is to weaken my natural and personal resources for living.

Passages under the heading,

"Disturbed Thought and Personal Thought” have been incorrect assumptions about the causes of schizophrenia.

These are Another Thoughts after spending some time attending a GROW Group and Reading the Blue book which has been quoted my some as the Bible for Mental Health..

When will they See just how Cult Like this movement could be?
